Interview Segment with Vifah Emmanuel:
Q1. How did you first become interested in art? What factors influenced your decision to pursue art?
My deep-seated passion for art ignited during my first year of junior high school. Before that pivotal moment, my creative endeavors primarily revolved around sketching an array of cartoon characters and replicating imagery from the covers of film cases. It was during this period that I discovered my unique ability to enhance memory and comprehension through visual techniques, such as sketching and annotating, or by immersing myself in visual observations. This newfound awareness equipped me with the means to actively participate in class discussions and ensured I didn't fall behind academically.
Even though I possessed a strong desire to communicate with the world, verbal expression proved challenging for me. Consequently, I made a deliberate decision to harness the power of art as a vehicle for conveying my thoughts and serving as an advocate for my voice, all without the need for verbal expression.
Q2. What does your art entail, and how would you describe its style?
My art is created with acrylic, charcoal, and occasionally pastels on canvas. My creative approach embraces a radical expressionism technique, and my grotesque is primarily expressed in an intentionally imperfect manner.
Q3. How do you approach the concept of imagination/abstraction in your artwork?
I create art that emerges from my imagination. Within the pages of my sketchbooks, I allow my thoughts to unfurl, weaving intricate patterns of colors and distortion, all with a deliberate intention of abstract expression. My artistic process is a boundless exploration of the depths of my mind, a captivating dance of creativity where I draw whatever my heart desires, transcending the boundaries of conventional artistry.

The professional challenges I encounter are rooted in the irony of the artistic process. At times, procuring the necessary materials to sustain my creative endeavors proves to be quite challenging. Additionally, I occasionally face rejection when seeking exposure through local exhibitions, primarily due to my current lack of recognition within the art industry.
Q7. What role do you think art plays in society?

Through its diverse avenues, art enables us to immortalize moments, preserve our history and heritage, enhance the aesthetics of our surroundings, establish a unique sense of identity, and provide healing benefits to individuals and communities.
