Artist Statement
This painting is an advocacy for the African girl child who have been victims of heinous customs, traditions and vices; from female genital mutilation, child marriage, gender based violence etc. Like the historical Queen Amina of Zaria in northern Nigeria who was renown for her fearless leadership and valiance in battle, the girl child has as much right and potential to live and do exploits as their male counterparts and should be given wings to fly.
