Roots in cloth
$1,000.00
I once walked into an event and in the midst of many faces, one woman stood out to me. It wasn’t her voice or her presence that first spoke, but her hairpiece adorned with cultural motifs that immediately whispered of home. In that moment, I knew she carried the mark of the Ijo people. Just one piece of attire revealed her roots, her heritage, her story. Culture has a powerful way of announcing who we are, even before we speak. In a crowd filled with countless traditions, one symbol can echo an entire ancestry. This painting is dedicated to that truth to the motifs, the fabrics, the adornments that tell the world where we come from and remind us of who we are.
