Description

Echoes of Hope is a portrait of a young woman captured in a quiet, reflective moment. The work explores the presence of hope as something subtle and internal, often found in stillness rather than expression. The painting is inspired by the resilience of the human spirit—how hope can persist even in uncertainty or emotional silence. The side-view composition was chosen to emphasize introspection, allowing the subject to appear absorbed in her thoughts, as though reaching inward rather than outward. Executed in a realistic yet expressive style, the work focuses on mood and emotional depth rather than just physical likeness. It invites viewers to reflect on their own inner “echoes of hope”—those quiet feelings that sustain and guide us forward, even when life feels uncertain.

Artist Statement
My practice explores memory, growth, and the quiet psychological spaces shaped by education, environment, and early social experiences. Beginning with imagery centered around school uniforms and classroom settings, I became interested in the subtle structures that shape identity during childhood — the rituals of assembly, discipline, learning, observation, and belonging. Over time, the work evolved beyond the literal presence of the uniform. What remains is the emotional and symbolic residue of those formative years. The figures now exist within more open and natural environments — surrounded by grasses, fields, and fragments of familiar landscapes that echo the everyday spaces many of us encountered while growing up. These environments function not merely as backgrounds, but as metaphors for transition, reflection, freedom, and becoming. Rather than departing from my earlier works, this shift represents an extension of them. The student figure matures, carrying traces of childhood into newer stages of awareness and self-discovery. The classroom expands into the environment; the structured assembly becomes quieter, more internal, and deeply personal. Through painting, I seek to create contemplative spaces where memory and present reality intersect — spaces that invite viewers to reflect on how environments, both institutional and natural, contribute to the shaping of thought, identity, and human experience.

Artist Name: Charity Meshach

Category: Artist

Date Of Birth: 02-07-1997

Experience: 3 to above

Qualification:Bachelor

About Artisan: Meshach Charity is a figurative painter from Nigeria. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Fine and Industrial Arts (Painting),
solidifying his foundation in the art world. He uses oil colour as a primary medium of expression, and his works are
profoundly influenced by his daily experiences and the environment he grew up in; drawing inspiration from the vibrant life
around him. Meshach skillfully uses colour and creativity to structure, capture and portray the dynamic events of everyday
life. His deep passion for art enables him to transform ordinary occurrences into compelling visual narratives, reflecting his
unique perspective and artistic vision

Mission Statement: My work is rooted in the ordinary rhythms of my life—my journey as a student, my interactions with the world around me, and the silent emotional battles that accompany growth. I draw deeply from daily experiences and the different phases of life that shape who we become. These moments, both subtle and overwhelming, form the foundation of my visual language.

A recurring theme in my practice is the internal mood: the emotions we cannot voice, the expressions we suppress, and the weight of silence that often comes from the backgrounds we are raised in. Growing up in environments where feelings are muted and vulnerability is discouraged has made me sensitive to the unspoken stories that people carry. My art attempts to give shape to these quiet struggles.

In previous bodies of work, I focused on students and children—figures with school bags, uniforms, and youthful presence. These works explored the innocence, pressure, and transitions of early life, reflecting the formative years that mold our identity.

My current series expands this exploration by delving into the conspicuency of human existence—the tension between who we are, where we come from, and who we aspire to be. I am interested in the imbalance many individuals feel because of their background: the sense that life is not level, that some are favored while others must fight harder to breathe, speak, or be seen. This imbalance often results in silence, overthinking, emotional withdrawal, or the struggle to rise and confront the world.

Through my art, I examine this journey of emergence—the attempt to stand up, break out of inherited limitations, and navigate the complexity of being human. Each piece reflects the layered experience of coming from a local, humble background while trying to find meaning, voice, and space in a world that is not always fair.

Description

Silent Appeal is inspired by quiet emotional expression found in nature and human experience—moments where feelings are present but not spoken. It reflects how nature communicates mood and meaning through stillness, light, and atmosphere, mirroring inner human emotions. I hope viewers feel calm reflection and emotional awareness. The work invites them to slow down and interpret meaning through feeling, connecting with ideas of hidden emotions, vulnerability, and silent communication. Oil paint was chosen for its depth and smooth blending, which suits emotional and atmospheric expression. The nature-like subject matter creates a symbolic link between humans and the natural world, while the soft, realistic style helps the message come through subtly through mood, texture, and atmosphere

Description

Shades of Courage is a side-view portrait of a young man, captured in a moment of quiet strength and reflection. The work explores the idea that courage is not always loud or visible, but often found in stillness, endurance, and inner resolve.Inspired by the unseen battles people face in daily life, the painting presents the subject in a contemplative pose, inviting viewers to consider what strength looks like beyond physical expression or outward confidence.Rendered in a portrait style, the piece emphasizes realism with subtle expressive undertones, using light, shadow, and tone to suggest emotional depth. The choice of a side view reinforces introspection, symbolizing a journey inward rather than outward display.Through this work, the artist hopes viewers feel a sense of resilience and quiet dignity, and reflect on their own definitions of courage in everyday life.

Description

“A Glimpse into the Unseen” presents a serene woman reclined in a flowing red gown, her beautifully styled hair scattered gently around her as she rests with her eyes closed. The composition balances vibrancy and stillness—passion and surrender—through the striking presence of red against a calm, contemplative atmosphere. The red gown symbolizes passion, strength, and emotional depth, grounding the work in intensity while her posture evokes quiet introspection. Her closed eyes suggest not sleep, but inner vision—a journey beyond the physical realm into spaces where intuition and spirit reside. The scattered hair reflects freedom and release, reinforcing a sense of vulnerability and grace.Rendered in oil, the rich textures and layered brushwork heighten the contrast between movement and calm, inviting viewers to pause, reflect, and enter a realm that exists just beyond sight.

Artist Statement
As a figurative painter working in oil within expressive realism, my work is rooted in the ordinary rhythms of my life—my journey as a student, my daily encounters, and the silent emotional transitions that accompany growth. I am deeply inspired by moments that often go unnoticed: the quiet pauses, the inner conflicts, and the subtle shifts that shape who we become.“A Glimpse into the Unseen” reflects my fascination with the unseen dimensions of human experience—those spaces between wakefulness and dreams, strength and surrender, visibility and mystery. Through expressive yet intentional brushwork, I aim to capture not just physical likeness but emotional presence. My paintings are invitations to slow down and feel. I hope viewers encounter a sense of peace, curiosity, and personal connection—recognizing that sometimes the most profound truths are found not in what we see, but in what we sense.
