Observation 11
$18,000.00
Observation 11 is a somber, deeply introspective portrait capturing an elder crowned in a vibrant red skullcap. Executed in deep earth tones, raw umber, and weathered white glazes, the figure gazes sideways with a watchful, discerning eye. The paint surface is weathered and scarred, characterized by cascading wash drips and cracked textures that suggest the passage of time and wisdom. The contrast between the saturated red headwear—a traditional marker of title and senior authority in West African societies—and the shadowed, dripping portrait reflects on duty, leadership, and quiet reflection.

Artist Statement
My practice investigates the human condition through the prism of resilience. By exposing the surface to abrasive washes, layered pigments, and running drips, I mirror life's weathering effects on the human spirit. The face becomes a testament to survival, proving that dignity endures against all odds.
